My Top 10 Lessons from Life at RG

Hello wonderful humans 👋🏽

As some of you might have heard, I’m getting ready to wrap up my chapter at RGER at the end of May.

With just a few weeks left before I turn the page, I figured it was time for a little reflection (and maybe a few feels).

Goodbyes aren’t really my thing, but a good list (and walk down memory lane) definitely is.

So here it is: My top 10 lessons from Life at RGER:

1. The People Make the Magic

People always ask, "What’s the magic of RG?" And the answer is simple: it’s the people.

We’ve talked about RG Magic for years—what makes this place so special—and no matter how much changes, it always comes down to the people. I’ve never been surrounded by so many brilliant, kind, creative, and driven humans, and I feel SO lucky. I’ve made lifelong friends around the world and am inspired daily by my interactions. The best part? No matter what shifts in the business, I know you’ll continue to keep the RG Magic alive.

2. Choose Open and Honest Communication

Okay, I know I’m biased, but if I could add another value to our list, this would be it.

The absence of information isn’t no information—it’s the stories we tell ourselves. Open, honest, and frequent communication makes life easier for everyone. And here’s the thing: it’s okay if you don’t have all the answers. Just do the best you can with what you know, and share it. It makes all the difference in keeping people connected and informed.

3. Control What You Can Control

This was the best advice I got from my very first RG manager, Patrick.

At the time, we were juggling a massive client migration, COVID, a shifting team—all the things—and his reminder was simple: just control what you can control.

There’s so much stress, anxiety, and noise that comes from things we have zero power over. As someone who loves to control, this lesson wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. And I still remind myself of it daily.

4. Make Love and Belonging Your Foundation

From EP!C to leaning into uncomfortable conversations, I’ve learned so much about love and belonging at RG. And I truly believe the world would be a better place if we all made this our foundation.

This is what creates connection. This is what makes work, life, and everything in between worth it. If you haven’t already—explore our EP!C networks, join one, and experience the magic firsthand.

Our lovely People Team, always leading with heart and championing everything EP!C 🤩

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Speak Up

Find your voice and use it.

There are people who want to listen. There are opportunities that come from sharing how you feel.

Speaking up has shaped my entire journey at RG. From my first Speak Up to my interview with Doug about race, to writing my first boom! post, to sharing my thoughts in meetings—I remember every single time I was shaking with fear, convinced I’d said the wrong thing. But I did it. And I grew.

And here’s the truth: it gets easier. I’m forever grateful to RG for giving me a platform to use my voice.

6. Appreciation Appreciates

Yes, it’s a little cliché, but stick with me here.

Since I’ve joined, almost 100K moments of recognition have been sent at RGER. That’s an amazing amount of appreciation and pausing to celebrate someone else.

Launching new recognition programs has been one of my greatest joys. Whenever I need a pick-me-up, I scroll through the Wow Wall and instantly feel re-inspired by the incredible things happening across the business. Appreciation is contagious. It’s motivating. And it makes you want to pay it forward. So yes, I believe that appreciation appreciates—and I’m grateful for everyone who has shown me that.

7. What If It All Goes Well?

Our first award ceremony in the US. We had no idea what to expect and ended up named the #2 Inspiring Workplace in North America 🏆

Any other what-if-ers out there?

My anxiety loves a good worst-case scenario spiral, and stepping into this next chapter of life makes it easy to go there. But I still remember Julie Zadow sharing this thought on her last day:

“What if it all goes well?”

Yes, there are a million things that could go wrong. But what if everything works out? What does that look like? How would it feel? That simple shift in perspective is one of my favorite reminders, and I hope it helps someone else too.

8. Change Is the Only Constant

I’ve always said I like change. (I’ve moved house 5 times during my time at RG, after all 🙃) But I truly believe growth happens when you get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Since I joined, we’ve seen:

  • Growth from 350 to 1,200 employees

  • 20+ leadership appointments

  • 5 new offices

  • acquisitions

  • 2 company exits

  • 1 full brand transformation

  • And countless lessons come from it all

At times, it was like… okay, maybe not that much change at once. But in hindsight? It made things exciting, full of opportunity, and certainly keeps you on your toes.

Lot’s of change since this photo but so many memories! 🤗

9. You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup

Mental health always matters.

Some of my favorite projects at RG have been around HEART and launching wellbeing initiatives. And personally? I’ve struggled with my mental health since I was a teenager, so being part of a company that prioritizes it has meant everything.

You can do anything, but you can’t do everything. Prioritize your own wellbeing. You can’t support others if you’re running on empty.

10. Do Your Part to Make the World a Better Place

My very first day at RG was spent volunteering in the rain, something I will never forget and the absolute best onboarding experience to embody our mission ❤️

Of course, I had to end with our mission. 🤗

Yes, RGER’s mission is to make the world a better place to work, but I truly believe that in doing so, we’re making the world a better place.

We spend ⅓ of our lives at work. And if that time is spent doing something meaningful—something that aligns our passion with our purpose—then the other ⅔ of life feels pretty damn good too.

We all have the power to leave this world a little better than we found it. And if that starts with spreading a mission and improving the lives of millions of employees worldwide, then I think that’s a pretty inspiring place to start.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to every single person who’s been part of my journey, shared their magic with me, and made this the most incredible chapter of my career. I’m walking away filled with gratitude, lessons, and memories that will stay with me forever.

If you want to catch up in the coming weeks, grab some time on my calendar! And of course, let’s stay connected on LinkedIn—I’ll be cheering you on and watching you all shine from afar.

Now, onto the next adventure (my wedding—EEK!) and spreading these lessons far and wide as I take the next step toward aligning my passion with my purpose.

Xx,
Klara
